Principal's Report
Welcome back to school and to Term 3.
Term 3 is a busy term for our school community, and I encourage you to be mindful of key dates and activities across the next 10 weeks. I would like to acknowledge the tremendous contributions from our amazing CPR network – their weekly newsletters are valued by our families and staff – thankyou.
The Term 3 Parent Teacher conferences scheduled for Tuesday; July 22 are part of the formal reporting to parents. Each year parents received a written report in Terms 2 and 4 and have the opportunity to participate in a conference with their child’s teacher in Terms 1 and 4.
During this term some of the activities include Junior Sports Day; Free Dress; Qld Opera performance (Years 3 – 6); Life Education program; Year 2 Science incursion; Year 4 excursion to Landfill; Beenleigh Eisteddfod; ICAS competitions; Book Week (including Book Character parade); Year 3 Science incursion; Gold Coast Eisteddfod plus a number of year level programs and celebrations. A busy term.
As we move into Semester 2/2025, we are already starting to plan the 2026 school year – which will be an exciting one as it is our school centenary of providing education to our community. As we always do, I ask parents who may not be returning in 2026 to advise the school of your intentions to support our predicted enrolments. Planning for Prep 2026 is well underway, and it is essential for families to contact the office if you are anticipating enrolling your child in the 2026 Prep program.
I would like to welcome Mr Richard Kneipp to our school in the role of PE teacher while Mr Ben Bourke is on leave. Richard brings a wealth of experience and a passion for physical education to our school community.
I also welcome Mr Scott Spreadbury to Year 1. Scott is an enthusiastic educator who looks forward to meeting with his students’ families.
As the school year moves into the winter months, we can expect an increase in health issues (e.g. Influenza A/B/RSV) for our community members. It is essential that all community members who are unwell (students and staff) remain at home to recover. School is certainly not the place to be unwell.
I am aware that families are keen to know about programs that are available for Camp Hill students on our campus out of school hours. The school has commercial arrangements with a number of external hirers (as per Department of Education guidelines) for use of our facilities. Details of these programs are available on our school website. Please be aware that these programs are NOT run as part of school programs.
School programs such as Dance and Aerobics are not included in this list as they are run by our teaching staff and prepare students for interschool competitions.
Thank you to all members of our school community for your support for our school.
Take care
Deborah Driver

School Opinion Survey
The suite of School Opinion Surveys is undertaken each year by the Department of Education to obtain opinions about our school from families, school staff and students in target year levels (Years 5 & 6). The surveys will help identify what we are doing well and understand where we can improve. The survey invitation will be emailed in the week beginning 28 July and is titled School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2025.
Each school family will receive one email invitation from the Department of Education to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey. The survey is anonymous, and the results are reported in ways that an individual’s response can be identified by the school.
Parents/Caregivers are encouraged to complete the survey. The survey can be completed via computers, tablets or smart phones with an internet connection.
For Parents/Caregivers who do not have access to the internet school computers/tablets will be available. Parents/caregivers who experience difficulties accessing the survey can request a new survey from the School Opinion Survey team via email schoolopinionsurvey@qed.qld.gov.au.
It’s important that as many parents/caregivers as possible complete the survey, so we would appreciate if members of this committee would raise awareness of this survey with other parents and caregivers.
Can’t find your invitation? If your family has more than one parent/caregiver, check that they haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder.

You Can Do It

PERSISTENCE
We begin the term by focussing on ‘Pete Persistence’ and ‘Penny Persistence’. The children will learn about the importance of not giving up, particularly when something is challenging, difficult or just plain boring. There is much value in keeping focussed, putting in effort and keeping at it, particularly if it feels like it is too hard or you are tired.
Prep classes are doing a rhythmic finger click … “The more I try, the better I get.”
Have a conversation with your child about what it means to be persistent.
Persistence is trying hard and keeping on trying, particularly when something feels like it is too hard, or you are tired.

Examples of Persistent Behaviour to practice could include:
Tidying up after playing with equipment, even though you don’t want to.
Finishing a new puzzle even if you need to ask for help.
Keep trying when learning to write letters, even though it is hard.
Trying to draw a picture of something that is difficult to draw.
Not rushing your work.
Working neatly.
To keep trying when you are tired.

Library News
Library Matters !
August is Book Week
Book Week is coming soon! This year our theme is Book an adventure!
Don’t leave your book character dress up decisions until the last minute. Every day when you read a book with your child identify characters who they may like to come as for Book Week. Make a long list, then a short list. List the positives and negatives of each. These experiences are great for modelling decision making processes in a real-world situation, as opposed to a classroom setting. Think about props and everyday clothing items you have at home already. There are no prizes for costumes – our focus is participation not competition. Seeing other characters gives children opportunity to try reading a book they may not have read otherwise.
Prep to Year 2 will be parading with their classes on Wednesday August the 20th. Times will be announced next week.
Year 3-6 will be participating in a Free Dress Day on the same day. Theme- Book Character
Remember the Junior Library is open to parents every morning from 8:30am – 8:45am. Pop in and borrow 5 books to read each day.

Storybox Library – Now called StoryBox Hub.

Our school subscribes to this wonderful online portal of quality Australian children’s literature read by a variety of personalities, including authors. Bookmark it, or download the app, for those moments when a screen is handy, but you don’t want your child on You Tube or game sites! Look for the Readalong versions with text displayed as it is read. You can also filter the 600+ stories by age group, theme, or how many minutes you have! The Activity Time link will give some extension activities for children to do at home. The Sleep with Kip stories may be useful if you have a child with sleep issues. So many great features – make sure you have a look! Storybox does need a login as it is a paid service.

Queensland Police – Pipes and Drum (Cops in Kilts)
Last Wednesday (16th July), we were fortunate to welcome the Queensland Police Band to our school for a special performance for the whole school.
On a beautiful Brisbane winter day, the band set up under the Year 5 eating area and treated us to an engaging show featuring bagpipes, drums, and guitars. It was a joy to see all the students bopping along to the music, clearly enjoying every moment.
The students asked thoughtful questions and were impressed by the band’s outstanding musicianship and great sense of humour. We’re hopeful they’ll return for another fantastic performance next year!

If you see a truck entering or turning, please wait till it has finished before walking past it.
Gate 3 is a driveway not a footpath. For your safety, please use the pedestrian gates either at the front of the Hall or near the substation.
