Principal's Report
Welcome back to school and the final term for 2025 school year. I hope that our families had the opportunity to enjoy some special adventures during the Spring vacation and are ready for a busy term.
Term 4 date-claimers
This term we have several major events scheduled in the school diary. These include: Life Education program; Year 3 Science incursion; Pre-prep Come and Play mornings; Prep Bravehearts visit; Year 1 Street Science; Prep incursion; Choral Honours program; Year 5 camp and Year 6 camp; Day for Daniel; Prep to Year 3 Author visit; Prep excursion to Moreton Bay; Year 5 student leadership day; School musical (13/15/16 November); P&C Colour Fun Run; Junior and Senior Swim Carnivals; 2-26 Student Leaders ceremony; Carols at Camp Hill; Year 6 Graduation and our final Christmas combined parade. And of course, numerous class and year level celebrations across the term. Please ensure you watch out for date-claimers during the term.
Term 4 staffing changes
This term there is some changes to our this term:
- Mrs Fiona Lloyd is acting DP/JC behind Mrs Tuckett who is on leave for the term
- Mrs Karina Townsend is acting DP/SC behind Mrs Wills who is taking the first three weeks on long service leave
- Mrs Bronwyn Winnett is acting DP/Inclusion behind Mrs Lloyd for the term
- Mr Branagan will be Year 5 C (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) class teacher for the term
- Mrs Townsend will take up the role of Key Teacher Pedagogy from Weeks 4 – 10
- Mrs Porfyriou is our Key Teacher Literacy this term.
These changes reflect the diversity and depth of professional knowledge and practice at Camp Hill. I am delighted to work closely with each of these new to role staff.
2026 school year
The 2026 school year planning is certainly well under way – we have almost confirmed our 2026 preppies and look forward to welcoming our youngest learners to our school. Please look out for our special visitors at the 2026 Prep Come and Play visits this term.
It is essential that the school uses accurate student enrolment data for future planning, so it is important that families who may be leaving us at the end of the year advise the school administration as soon as possible. Thank you for your support.
Term 4 Swimming
The school will be sending home information for families regarding the Term 4 Swimming program (Week 2 – 9), which includes all Prep to Year 6 students. Class teachers will provide their classes with details of when swimming lessons are scheduled, as well as information seeking volunteers to support the supervision of the lessons. In Term 4/2025 Prep to Year 2 lessons will be taken by Swim Coach Jasmine Rollinson and Mr Richard Kneipp (PE teacher) with the class teacher at the pool. Years 3 – 6 classes will be taken by Mr Kneipp with the class teacher in attendance. We do ask for volunteers to support these programs, and if we were unable to meet the required ratio of staff to student then the swimming lesson would be cancelled.
Blue Cards
As you would be aware the criteria for Blue Cards have changed recently. For Parent volunteers:
Under the parent volunteer exemption, parents do not need a blue card to volunteer for activities that their own child is participating in UNLESS:
- The activity is an overnight camp or excursion
- The service or activity includes close personal contact with a child, such as bathing, toileting or dressing
- Parents need a blue card to volunteer for activities that their child is not directly participating in.
This exemption does not apply to a restricted person.
For the exemption, a parent of a child is defined as:
- The biological mother or father
- Someone exercising parental responsibility
- Someone who is regarded as the parent of the child under Aboriginal tradition
- Someone who is regarded as the parent of the child under Torres Strait Island custom.
Other relatives (such as grandparents and uncle and aunts) are NOT considered parents and are not afforded the volunteer parent exemption.
If you would like additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.
P&C Trivia Night – Saturday 18 October
The school P&C are holding a Trivia Night on Saturday 18 October that will give members of our school community the opportunity to test their general knowledge while enjoying a gentle evening. These nights are a great way to meet other members of the school community while supporting our P&C fundraising. Thank you for your support.
I would like to share my pride on our 2025 School Captains and Vice Captains who accompanied me, as guests of Minister Steve Minnikin MP, on a visit to Queensland Parliament house recently. These young people were exceptional representatives for our school community.

Stay safe

Mathletics
Exciting News: Free Mathletics Trial Available in Term 4!
We’re pleased to offer students in Years 3-6 the opportunity to trial Mathletics, a dynamic online mathematics program, throughout Term 4 this year.
Mathletics is designed to support students from Prep to Year 12 with curriculum-aligned activities that make learning maths fun and engaging. The platform offers interactive tasks, real-time challenges, and personalised learning pathways that help build confidence and reinforce classroom learning. Students can access Mathletics from home or school, making it a flexible tool for continued growth.
This term’s trial is a fantastic chance for teachers and families to explore the benefits of Mathletics. From 2026, families will be asked to contribute to the annual subscription cost. More information about payment will be included in the 2026 booklists.
Before your child can use Mathletics, parent consent is required via QParents.
We encourage families to take advantage of this free trial and see how Mathletics can support your child’s learning journey.

Respectful Relationships Education (RRE) – A Whole School Approach at Camp Hill
Next Term, Prep parents and carers are invited to an information session, on Thursday 30 October at 5pm, to learn more about Respectful Relationships Education. See flyer below for more information about this session.
All Queensland state schools are required to provide health and wellbeing education, including respectful relationships education (RRE), through the delivery of the required curriculum and a whole-school approach to learning and wellbeing. RRE will be part of the curriculum at Camp Hill as Version 9.0 Health and Physical Education (HPE) is implemented, starting with Prep this year, then into Year 1 in 2026. Moving forward, the new HPE curriculum (including RRE) will be taught in all year levels by 2028.
Respectful Relationships Education takes a developmental approach to content and delivery. Age-appropriate learning means that each concept is explored in ways that relate to students’ developmental stage, interests and learning style. Over the years of schooling from Prep to Year 12, students will be exposed to age-appropriate learning opportunities that help them build respectful relationships, understand consent and understand help-seeking behaviours.
As a parent or carer, you have a primary role in teaching your child the importance of respect and how to build the skills they need to establish safe and healthy relationships.
How can parents and carers talk to our young people?
By having regular conversations about what positive, happy and equal relationships look like, you help your child build self-respect and learn to be respectful to others. ‘Big talks’ about things like consent can be tricky, so it’s often best to make the most of opportunities when they come up. These conversations will assist in building your child’s personal and social skills.
How can parents and families play a role?
As a parent or carer, you play a primary role in teaching your child to treat others with respect, and in helping them set an expectation to be treated with respect. Children and young people need the skills to build safe and healthy relationships with their family, friends, peers, workmates and others, in all aspects of their lives. Parents and families are an important part of our whole-school approach to RRE and have the opportunity to reinforce and model these messages outside the school gates.
By building these personal and social skills and creating a culture of respect, issues such as domestic, family and sexual violence and all forms of violence or abuse, discrimination and harassment are less likely to occur.

Name It to Tame It: Helping Kids Manage Big Emotions
Sometimes, our children will seemingly melt down over something small, like the wrong colour cup or a change in routine and we can be left wondering, What just happened?
These experiences give us the opportunity to support our children’s development of emotional awareness and regulation using the simple emotion coaching strategy, Name It to Tame It.
Name it to Tame, developed by Dr. Dan Siegel, refers to the notion that
When we name our feelings, we can better manage them.
When children (and adults!) experience strong emotions, the amygdala, the brain’s alarm system takes over. Naming the feeling (I’m mad/scared/frustrated/feel left out etc) helps calm that alarm and activate the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for thinking, reasoning, and decision-making. Essentially, when kids can name their feelings, they can start to better manage them.
Using It at Home
- Model Use emotional words in everyday situations, ‘I feel frustrated that we’re running late’ or ‘I’m excited we are going swimming this weekend’.
- Help your child find the When they’re upset, gently guess what they might be feeling, ‘It looks like you’re feeling disappointed because the game ended’, even if you’re not quite right, you’re helping them learn emotional language.
- Use Stick an emotions chart or feelings wheel on the fridge.
- Validate and once the emotion is named, offer empathy, ‘I can see you’re sad that your friend couldn’t play today. That makes sense’. Validation helps children feel seen and supported, which is often all they need to begin to calm down.
Children who learn to recognise and name their emotions are better able to:
- Handle frustration and disappointment
- Communicate effectively
- Build empathy and healthy relationships
- Develop resilience and problem-solving skills
Name It to Tame It not only helps kids through tricky moments, it also gives them the foundation of a lifelong tool for emotional regulation and well-being.

QParents – how to update your child’s medical conditions
In QParents, you can inform the school of any medical conditions that your student may have. To utilise this function, you must be a QParents Account Owner. Please note that you may be required to undertake further follow-up with the school depending on the medical condition selected. In this case the relevant schools officer will contact you after receiving notification of the medical condition.
1. Log in to your QParents account. The My Students page will be displayed. If you are already logged into QParents, click on the QParents logo to return to the My Students page.
2. On the My Students page, click on the student name or click the View student button.

3. Click on the Manage student details link found below the student’s name.

4. The Student Details page will be displayed.
5. Select the Manage medical conditions button.

6. The Medical Conditions screen will appear.

If the student has any previously reported medical conditions they will be listed, otherwise a message stating no medical conditions have been recorded will be displayed.
7. To add a medical condition, select the Add medical condition button.
8. The Medical conditions screen will appear. Select the down arrow to display a list of medical conditions. Pick the medical condition you wish to add to your student’s details.
Depending on the medical condition that you have selected, a details box may appear. Please enter in as much information as you can provide regarding this medical condition for the student.

9. A ‘tick’ will automatically appear within the Current box indicating the condition is still current. To remove the tick, click the box again. This indicates that the medical condition is not current, however will still remain recorded for the student.

The newly entered medical conditions are then sent to the student’s school for review and, if necessary, further follow-up. Once accepted, the medical conditions will be displayed under the student’s details. An email will be sent to you advising of the medical conditions you have added to the student’s record.
12. Press the Back button to return to the Student Details screen or log out if you have finished using the app.
Parent Volunteers – Blue Card Requirements (Updated)
Parent Volunteers – Blue Card Requirements (Updated)
We value and appreciate the contribution of our parent volunteers who support school activities and events. The information below outlines when a Blue Card is required under the parent volunteer exemption and includes recent updates from Blue Card Services.
Due to recent changes to Blue Card exemptions, parents who volunteer to assist with certain school activities are now required to hold an active Blue Card. Parents can apply for a Volunteer Blue Card, free of charge, by visiting the Blue Card Services website and applying online.
Activities now requiring a Blue Card for parent volunteers include:
- School swimming assistance
- Assisting in a class or classes that their child is not enrolled in (e.g., helping with reading or maths groups for another class)
- Attendance at overnight camps or activities
When a Blue Card is not required:
Parents do not need a Blue Card to volunteer in activities that their own child is directly participating in, except in the following circumstances:
- The activity involves an overnight camp or excursion; or
- The activity includes personal care such as toileting, bathing or dressing.
When a Blue Card is required:
A Blue Card is required if you are volunteering in an activity that your child is not directly participating in.
Who qualifies as a ‘parent’:
For the purposes of this exemption, a parent refers to:
- The child’s biological or adoptive mother or father;
- A person who has parental responsibility for the child;
- A person recognised as a parent of the child under Aboriginal tradition; or
- A person recognised as a parent of the child under Torres Strait Islander custom.
Other family members:
Other relatives, such as grandparents, aunties and uncles, are not considered parents for this exemption and must hold a valid Blue Card before volunteering.
Prior to volunteering in any of the above roles, parents must have completed the Volunteer Paperwork and have their Blue Card linked to the school. Further information on this process can be found in the Volunteers Information Sheet, available on the school website.
Please note: a Customer Reference Number (CRN) from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads is required before applying for a Blue Card.
We thank our parent volunteers for their time, support, and willingness to assist in school activities. Your involvement plays an important role in supporting our students and school community.

You Can Do It

TEACHING RESILIENCE
It is important to have conversations with your child about what it means to be resilient. Sometimes it can be after or before an event, when your child mat be upset over something. This could be times such as not getting invited to a party, having to take a test or having been unfairly chastised by a teacher, parent or sibling.
The conversation can occur at restful times such as when your child is getting ready for bed, in the car, or on a walk.
Ricky Resilience and Rosie Resilience are the characters from the ‘You Can Do It’ program who teach the children resilience through puppets, songs and stories. This be the focus for term 4.
The children learn that when we are faced with a challenging person or situation, it is important to be aware of how we feel. If the emotion is strong, we try to stay as calm as we can and if we do get upset, we try not to stay that way for too long as we try to engage the skills we have learnt to calm down.

Digital Technology – Online Consent
Parent consent is required for students to access some Digital Technology tools. We are using QParents app to communicate this consent data. Once established this consent will only need to be collected once per year or school sector (lower/middle/upper school). All apps and programs are thoroughly vetted by Education Queensland in a risk management process before being considered for student use.

Many of these software programs are also nationally accredited through the Safer Technologies 4 Schools (ST4S) initiative. The ST4S initiative is a standardised approach to evaluating digital products and services used by schools across Australia and New Zealand against a nationally consistent security and privacy control framework.
Having online access to a range of quality software tools will enable students to consolidate their learning and assessment in a variety of ways across all curriculum areas. In classroom learning and Specialist lessons the same programs will be used. For example, Adobe Express will allow students to create multimedia using video, sound, music and animated creations, all while using their Education Queensland login.

This week Year 3-6 parents will have received a notification or email to allow you to provide consent through the QParents portal to approve student use of Adobe Express, Mathletics, and Inquisitive. Please check your email or the school newsletter for instructions if you need to register for QParents.
Book Swap
Our Holiday Book Swap in Week 10 of Term 3 was very popular with many students participating. There were some beautiful picture books donated, and some brand new chapter books also. The Dog Mans, Pokemon and Minecraft were quickly snapped up.

Hopefully all those books have been read and enjoyed!! Sustainability and re-use of everyday items is something our children will have to master now and in the future.
We are fortunate to have many street libraries in our local area if you have books to dispose of or want a new read! Camp Hill Kindy, The Avenues Early Learning on Old Cleveland Rd, and Margaret St, Camp Hill are three closest to school.

Overdue Books
With the year roaring along at great speed please check your child’s Library and Home Reading books are returned regularly. Overdue books, if not returned at end of term, will incur a cost per book. To assist you to locate the missing title, emails are sent from our Library system when books

Uniforms

Welcome back to Term 4 with lots of special events coming up.
Do you have a Prep Student who has enrolled to start in 2026?
Have you booked your Uniform Shop fitting yet?
An email has been sent with booking information, but you can also find the link on the school website.
Look for the "Book Now" button and it will give you dates/times to choose from.
Appointments begin in November and continue until end of Term (including 2 Saturdays).
More appointments are available in January the week before school starts - a good time if you wish to make a fitting for an older current student - a family can all be fitted in one appointment slot to make it easier for you.
Please understand we cannot size or have future Prep students try on uniforms on the normal Tuesday/Thursday open mornings as I have other customers to help and it is a very busy time of the year for the Uniform Shop in general.
If you are only purchasing a hat or school bag, then this time is fine.
Remember too - you can order items for your future Prep on our online ordering system - just use an older sibling's name and I will deliver to their classroom for them to bring home.
