Principal’s Report
Welcome back to Camp Hill. I hope everyone had a great vacation and found time to enjoy the company of friends and family. I know that our students have all returned with many stories of their adventures over the two-week vacation period.
Term 2 is a busy term, with many additional programs and activities across the ten week term. These include: Senior Cross Country; P&C Movie Night; Free Dress days; our very special ANZAC day service; Parent Information session on Reading; 2025 Prep Information Sessions; Junior Cross Country; Mother’s Day stalls; Student Disco; Chaplaincy Week; Chaplaincy Spell-a-thon; Year 3 excursion; Year 2 and Year 5 to the Ekka Rural Discovery Day; Fun Day (Prep to Year 2); Reader’s Cup; Gateways programs; Senior Athletics; School Fair (15 June); Beginning Band camp; Southside Junior Strings program and the Didjeribone presentation.
Camp Hill ANZAC service
The annual Camp Hill ANZAC service is a very special event for our community. Over 30 years ago the remaining members of the (now disbanded) Belmont-Camp Hill RSL approached the school to request that the school take up the role of providing a (traditional) ANZAC service, on ANZAC day, for our community. The school has fulfilled this promise over many years, and we do it with pride.
The Camp Hill ANZAC Day service commenced with a march along Old Cleveland Road (road closed by Queensland Police Service) to the school senior campus. Once at the school there was a traditional ANZAC service with support from a number of political and community representatives. The service included songs supported by our school choirs and speeches from representatives from the Services and community members. This was a community service and included representatives from past and current servicemen and women, community groups, State, Catholic and Private schools and our Camp Hill community members. I have always been so incredibly proud of our commitment to ensuring the continuation of this Australian tradition. Lest We Forget.
Prep 2025
The school is well underway in our preparation for the 2025 prep program. It is essential that any family who are intending on enrolling their child in the 2025 Prep program submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) as soon as possible. We have already received a very large number of applications.
Families who have submitted an EOI will receive email updates on Information and Play Sessions that are scheduled for the remainder of this year.
P&C Fair
The biannual school Fair on 15 June 2024 is a major event in our school calendar and one that the students are keenly looking forward to. I encourage families to follow the P&C Facebook account and updates in the newsletter to see how you can support the event – “many hands do make light work”.
Thank you for your ongoing support for our school.
Take care
Deborah Driver
Best wishes

Principal
Deputy News
New Deputy Principal: Junior – Mrs Jane Tuckett
My name is Jane Tuckett (Mrs) and have been relocated to Camp Hill SIPS as the Deputy Principal replacing Mr Michael Frearson. I have met Mr Frearson as part of a change-over and know that I have “big shoes to fill”, but I will try my best.
I would like to thank the staff, students and parents that I have already meet, for the warm welcome I received when I started at the beginning of the term and during my visits last term. My first school as a Deputy Principal was at Belmont State School many years ago, so I was very excited when I heard I would be returning to the neighbourhood and coming here.
I have been a Deputy Principal with Education Queensland for over 20 years. During this time, I have worked in a range of schools, from school with just over 200 students to school with over 2000. Whilst I have worked with all year levels, my favourite area of the school would be the Early Years and assisting children in transitioning from Kindy to Prep, as you can usually see every student show improvement every day. I also enjoy listening to Early Year students’ opinions and views on the world, and seeing the joy on their faces when they have discovered something new or have achieved their goal.
I have a special interest in The Arts, Design and Technologies and Mathematics. However, I do have a love of reading and try to encourage children to develop this love as well. Whether reading for learning or relaxation, reading opens many avenues.
As a mother, wife and grandmother (a young one), I value family and the role families have in the education of their children and working together so that our children can achieve to the best of their ability. While at Camp Hill SIPS, I am looking forward to becoming involved in the P&C and getting to know the students, their parents/carers and other members of this wonderful community. If you see me around, please don’t hesitate to come up and say “hi”.
Kind regards
Jane Tuckett
Timely Reminder: Keeping your child and other kids healthy!
Terms 2 and 3 is often the time we see a lot of viruses and other illnesses in schools and around the community in general. Advice provided by the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne is that you should keep your child at home if they have any of the following:
• fever (temp over 37.5°C)
• stomach ache with vomiting
• stomach ache with diarrhoea (3 or more times in 24 hours)
• cough with fever
• body sores or rash with fever
• sore eyes with pus or thick mucus
• sore throat with fever
• no appetite, are tired, pale, cranky, or not feeling well.
Schools, child care centres and kindergartens are required by law (Public Health Act 2005) to exclude children with certain infectious diseases until the child is well and/or has been cleared by a doctor to return to school. The Time out: Keeping your child and other kids health, which can be found here. This poster provides information on the recommended minimum exclusion periods for infectious conditions.
Please remember to let us know if your child is absent from school and the reason why.

eSafety
Camp Hill is committed to helping students develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes to be safe and respectful users of technology. We are also aware that students’ online experiences often move seamlessly between home and school and as a school are committed to supporting our students safety online. We will be sharing a range of information, tips and resources for parents and carers from the eSafety Commissioner (eSafety.gov.au) that you can use with your family to help create positive experiences for your children online.
Reporting when something goes wrong online
If your child experiences something harmful online such as cyberbullying, image-based abuse or illegal and restricted content, you can report it directly to the social media service, game, app or website where the incident occurred.
Often young people will need the support of an adult to report. The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety.gov.au) advises taking the following steps:
1. Collect evidence before reporting to the platform or taking other action. If the issue is ongoing, make sure you collect screenshots showing what has been happening and for how long.
2. Report to the platform where it happened. Use The eSafety Guide to help you. After you report, the service may remove the content straight away. They may also block those responsible or delete their account. If the post involves something illegal like grooming, they may refer it to law enforcement or another agency to take further action.
3. If the platform does not take action, you or your child can report it to eSafety. eSafety will ask you to complete an online reporting form and include evidence.
Online safety for every family
The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety.gov.au) has released resources to help parents and carers from all backgrounds protect their families online.
The Online Safety for Every Family resources cover how to:
• get started with social media
• enjoy safer online gaming
• help your child if they are bullied online.
To make sure more families can start a conversation with their children about online safety, the resources are available in English, Simplified Chinese, Arabic, Burmese, Dari, Hindi, Nepali, Punjabi, Sinhalese, Swahili, Tamil, Tigrinya, Uyghur and Vietnamese.
Prep - Year 2
YEAR ONE
The students are learning about the benefits of being organised just like Oscar Organisation and Olivia Organisation. You Can Do It program developer, Professor Michael E Bernard explains that we can teach the attitudes and self-talk that help young children to be organised.
• Setting goals means that “It is good to do my best work.”
• Listening carefully means thinking that “It is important to listen to my teacher extra carefully when she is explaining something important.”
• Planning my time means thinking that “It is good not to waste time and to be on time for things.”
• Taking care of things means thinking that “I need to put things in their proper places. I need to clean up and be neat.”
The words of the song encourage the children to set goals and work hard to make them happen. Much discussion is centred on the importance of listening to instructions and making sure the messages are clear. Organised people feel happy as they are better equipped to deal with what is happening around them.
It’s good to be able to say -
“YES, I AM FEELING REALLY ORGANISED TODAY.”
• Wanting to do their best
• Carrying their own bag
• Putting their bag in the right place where it belongs
• Sitting down ready to listen to their teacher
• Before leaving home, making sure that everything they need is in their bag – hat, snack, lunch, library bag, water bottle
• Packing their bag and remembering to take everything home at the end of the day
• Getting started with their work on time
• Putting their work away when done
• Putting books back in their proper places
• Putting their name on their work
• Cleaning up after they have used materials

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone had an enjoyable break and is all rested and ready for the Term.
The Winter Warmers menu is up and running, with the waffles proving very popular. If you haven't done so, take a look and see what other delicious offerings are available. Lisa and Sharyn work hard at providing healthy menu choices.
I know I am always banging on about helping out in the tuckshop, but it really is an important part of our community. Without people giving some of their precious time, the Tuckshop could not run efficiently or effectively. Every little bit helps. Remember that all profits made at the tuckshop go back to the P&C to fund wonderful projects like the 2 new playgrounds the school will have.
Thank you to those that have already put their names on the register. Please click the link if you have some spare time

Uniform Shop
Winter Uniforms
Did you know??
The official school uniform includes a jacket and track pants and a polar fleece vest all with the Camp Hill branding.
These items can be worn over summer uniform items by all students in all year levels if they choose.
However, any item (other track pants/jackets/long sleeve t shirt/leggings etc) can be worn with the school uniform but MUST be navy blue in colour only.
These can be sourced from other retailers.
If your student is part of the school representative teams in Dance or Cheer or Aerobics they MUST have the official school jacket and pants to wear on competition days.
Winter stock from the uniform shop is available in new or second hand.
Second hand stock is very popular so please bring to the uniform shop any jackets/pants/vests that your family has outgrown for resale for store credit.
Items must be in good condition.
If you have not sold through the uniform shop before, please ask and I can explain how the system helps all Camp Hill families.

Thanks so much to our wonderful community here at OSHC for donating to our food pantry.
We did a call out last week and our shelves are looking full again which is amazing, however we would also love any donations from anyone within the school or broader community as we know that it has been such a utilised service since commencing last year.
The only stipulation on the items is that they don’t require refrigeration. Also, items do not only have to be food related, they can be other essential items like nappies, wipes etc.
Thanks from your team at OSHC
