Principal’s Report
As we move through the term there is a lot of activity across both campuses, including our very special community ANZAC day service; Junior and Senior Cross-Country days; Prep Parent Information Sessions on the Teaching of Reading; program celebrations and presentations. Our Instrumental Music program is also well underway and the students are engaged and showing impressive gains in these programs.
I am impressed with the student and staff commitment to the teaching and learning at school – all day, every day.
There are a few things that I would like to share with our community:
1. Free Dress Days (FDD)
The Free Dress Days are a long-standing feature of the school calendar and well supported by our students (and families). Each FDD raises funds for a designated group on campus (e.g., Music program; Sports program etc). The basis of the day is that the students are able to bring a gold coin (or more) if they do not wear their school uniform on this day. Unfortunately, this seems to have been lost over time. Your support for the FDD program is highly valued by the nominated group who receives the funds on the day.
2. Supervision of students out of school hours.
We have had some concerns about young children being dropped off at school well before the start of the school day. There have been students on the junior campus arriving before 8am, which can be a potential safety issue as there is no supervision until 8.30am. If you require before school care, please contact our Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) and book your child into this valued program.
Another issue is the supervision of non-school aged students. Over the years we have had a few serious incidents with younger children who made unsafe decisions. This has included a young child who climbed the wire fence on the boarder of the rubber matting on the junior campus and fell down to the lower ground on their head, another left the school grounds and was found by Camp Hill community member (a motorist) at the roundabout at the end of Wiles Street. School staff do not supervise non-school aged students, so your vigilance is very important.
3. Ill-health
As a large school, members of our school community (students, families and staff) will from time to time contact viruses that can be virulent. I will continue to send home information related to a reported illness. It is important to note that in many cases the student may have been vaccinated for the virus, but still has a positive reading. I have also asked our teachers to share the Health departments Time Out poster with families to ensure that you have access to the documents that we refer to in cases of reportable ill-health. Student confidentiality is paramount at all times and I will not identify the student who may have contacted the virus. The school does have community members who are immune compromised and we contact these families directly to let them know of virulent viruses on campus.
4. Parent/Teacher meetings
I encourage parents who wish to discuss their child’s progress to make an agreed time to meet with your class teacher. The school does schedule two face-to-face Parent Meetings each year (Terms 1 and 3), but I am aware that some families may wish to have additional meetings to discuss their child. It is important that both parent and teacher have the time set aside for these discussions. If you do wish to speak with a Deputy Principal, please contact the office to arrange a meeting.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our Camp Hill community ANZAC Day service – it is a very proud tradition for our community and one that the school values greatly.
Take care as the weather gets colder. Having recently been in Canberra, I appreciate just how cold the weather can be – minus 2 is just not Queensland!
INFORMATION UPDATES
1. Ill-health at school
We are asking all parents to monitor their children’s health, and if in doubt, seek medical opinion. We currently have a few students with confirmed Whooping Cough across both campuses. There continues to be cases of reported COVID and Novovirus within our community.
It is essential that children, and staff, who are unwell do not attend school. We will continue to contact families when we have concerns regarding their child and seek your support. The school community has a number of members who are immune compromised and at risk to these virulent viruses. Your support is much appreciated.
2. Cross Supervisors
I seek community support for our wonderful Crossing Supervisors. This is a very rewarding job, but one that can place the crossing supervisor in compromised situations when they are carrying out their job. EVERY person using the supervised crossing is required to follow the Safety Rules.
Thank you for your ongoing support for our school.
Take care
Deborah Driver
Best wishes

School Event – Cross Country Carnivals
It was wonderful to see many parents and other family members cheering on our students at our recent Cross Country Carnival; thank you for your support.
We greatly appreciated the time our PE teacher, Mr Ben Bourke had taken to organise these Carnivals, ensuring that all students could participate and have, while keeping everyone safe. Thank also to our teachers for encouraging our students and being flexible over the days.
Our biggest smile on the day of the Junior Cross Country Carnival when one Year 1 student worked out Mrs Tuckett would get three Zooper Dooper for attending all three events. Another Year 1 students who overheard the conversation informed Mrs Tuckett that she should only have one Zooper Dooper a day as she would have too much sugar and get a tummy ache. Through consultation with the class group, it was decided only one Zooper Dooper was allowed. A great demonstrated that our students…your children are listening about healthy eating and are confident in expressing their opinions and reasoning.
Please check the School Calendar for further events throughout the year.
Timely Reminder: Before and After School
A reminder that school commences at 8:55am each school day. It is not good practice for parents to come to school too early.
On the Senior Campus, all students are required to sit under the covered area near the library until 8:30am, after which time a member of administration will supervise until 8:55am when the first bell rings. Please note, there is not supervision on the Senior Campus until 8:30am.
On the Junior Campus:
• All Prep students must remain with and be supervised by a parent or carer outside their Prep classrooms until their classroom is opened by their teacher, normally by the first bell at 8:55am.
• All Year 1 and 2 students and all other siblings, are required to remain seated and under the care of a parent/guardian until a staff member arrives at 8:30am to supervise until the first bell rings at 8:55am.
• Students or younger siblings are NOT permitted to play on any school equipment before or after school unless a staff member has been rostered to supervise.
Students are not to arrive at school prior to 8:00am unless they are enrolled at OSHC or participating in an Instrumental Music Program or another school-based program.

Prep - Year 2
YEAR ONE
Organisational skills have been the focus for the students.
During these challenging times, it is especially helpful for all of us to tune-up our skills in this area.
With the help of Oscar Organisation and Olivia Organisation, the students have been looking at ways to be organised such as ……
• Listening to the adult who is supervising them
• Having what they need ready to go
• Using time wisely by getting started straight away
• Being able to say “I’m really organised today”
“Setting a goal to learn something helped you to be successful.”
“It’s really helpful to keep your backpack neat and clean.”
“Putting things away carefully can help you find things quickly when you next need them.”
“You were ready to work and you didn’t waste time.”

The students reflect on thinking …
“It is okay to make mistakes when learning something new.”
“It is good for me to say what I would like to do, as I don’t have to be bossed around by my classmates.”
“I can do things that are hard to do.”
P-2 Junior Campus Cross Country Carnival
Last week we held our annual Junior Campus Cross Country Carnival. As usual, the enthusiasm and participation from our students was outstanding. Students represented their house groups well, wearing their house group colours with pride and continuing on their passionate house spirit!
Thank you to all staff who made the event a success and thank you to all parent/carers and other visitors who came to support the students on the day.

Semester 1 Lytton District Sport Trials
Our school is 1 of 29 schools in the Lytton District school sport cluster. Students turning 10-12 years old in 2024 (Born 2012, 2013 and 2014) have the opportunity to nominate in Lytton District Sport Trials, which is the first stage of representative school sport. If successful, students then compete in the Met East Regional Trial. If students are selected in a Met East team, they play in the QLD State Carnival.
Trials can be during or after school hours. Please note that these are not participation-based opportunities and students at these trials would need to have a high level of ability and/or experience to be involved. Schools are usually limited to 4 nominations for each district sport trial.
Below are the considerations when nominating:
- Is the correct age to trial (Born 2012, 2013 or 2014).
- Usually students turning 12 years old, would get priority over younger students.
- Has prior playing experience and skills in the interested sport.
- Their physical skill level and ability to trial in a representative opportunity.
- Safety suitability. Some students turning 12 years old have developed physical size.
Students under 12 years old (Born 2013 and 2014) would need to demonstrate the ability to compete with older students at a representative trial.
Semester 1 sport trials still on offer are:
Girls’ and Boys’ Softball Tuesday 28 May Tuesday 21 May
Please see Mr Bourke ASAP before the trial date, for more information or to be nominated.
Mothers’ Day Thank You
The annual tradition of the Camp Hill Mother's Day Stall has again seen so many little shoppers excited to choose a gift for that someone special. Students are always excited to peruse the range of gifts available and put considerable thought into the choices they make. This experience also allows them to handle money - understand transactions and use so many skills and demonstrate independence in a positive way.
Thanks must go to -
- Teachers and school staff, including Class Reps who help share information.
- Families for supporting the stall.
- Volunteer helpers who make it all possible for the little shoppers!! including those who will take over the running of the stall going forward.
Your support is appreciated to make all this possible

eSafety
Camp Hill is committed to helping students develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes to be safe and respectful users of technology. We are also aware that students’ online experiences often move seamlessly between home and school and as a school are committed to supporting our students safety online. We will be sharing a range of information, tips and resources for parents and carers from the eSafety Commissioner (eSafety.gov.au) that you can use with your family to help create positive experiences for your children online.
Reporting when something goes wrong online
If your child experiences something harmful online such as cyberbullying, image-based abuse or illegal and restricted content, you can report it directly to the social media service, game, app or website where the incident occurred.
Often young people will need the support of an adult to report. The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety.gov.au) advises taking the following steps:
1. Collect evidence before reporting to the platform or taking other action. If the issue is ongoing, make sure you collect screenshots showing what has been happening and for how long.
2. Report to the platform where it happened. Use The eSafety Guide to help you. After you report, the service may remove the content straight away. They may also block those responsible or delete their account. If the post involves something illegal like grooming, they may refer it to law enforcement or another agency to take further action.
3. If the platform does not take action, you or your child can report it to eSafety. eSafety will ask you to complete an online reporting form and include evidence.
Online safety for every family
The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety.gov.au) has released resources to help parents and carers from all backgrounds protect their families online.
The Online Safety for Every Family resources cover how to:
• get started with social media
• enjoy safer online gaming
• help your child if they are bullied online.
To make sure more families can start a conversation with their children about online safety, the resources are available in English, Simplified Chinese, Arabic, Burmese, Dari, Hindi, Nepali, Punjabi, Sinhalese, Swahili, Tamil, Tigrinya, Uyghur and Vietnamese.
The Tuckshop will be changing the SUSHI MENU from Monday 13th May. Prices will not change but variety will. If you have pre-ordered sushi please check that your choice is still available.
The Tuckshop is really struggling to get volunteers this term. The more volunteers we have the more profit goes back to the P&C to put towards projects like the new playgrounds. I am not asking for a lot of your time, JUST 2 HOURS once a week/fortnight/month/term. Please, please, please click the link below. Many hands make light work.

Uniform Shop
Winter Uniforms
Did you know??
The official school uniform includes a jacket and track pants and a polar fleece vest all with the Camp Hill branding.
These items can be worn over summer uniform items by all students in all year levels if they choose.
However, any item (other track pants/jackets/long sleeve t shirt/leggings etc) can be worn with the school uniform but MUST be navy blue in colour only.
Remember too.....
These can be sourced from other retailers.
If your student is part of the school representative teams in Dance or Cheer or Aerobics they MUST have the official school jacket and pants to wear on competition days.
Winter stock from the uniform shop is available in new or second hand.
Second hand stock is very popular so please bring to the uniform shop any jackets/pants/vests that your family has outgrown for resale to help everyone find items they are looking for and earn back some $$ too !!
Items must be in good condition.
If you have not sold through the uniform shop before, please ask and I can explain how the system helps all Camp Hill families.

Thanks so much to our wonderful community here at OSHC for donating to our food pantry.
We did a call out last week and our shelves are looking full again which is amazing, however we would also love any donations from anyone within the school or broader community as we know that it has been such a utilised service since commencing last year.
The only stipulation on the items is that they don’t require refrigeration. Also, items do not only have to be food related, they can be other essential items like nappies, wipes etc.
Thanks from your team at OSHC
