Principal’s Report
As we move into the final weeks of Term 2 the students are enjoying celebrations of their learning across all learning areas. Our teachers are undertaking year level planning to set up the new term across all key learning areas. The teachers are focused on consistency and alignment to the Australian Curriculum.
Report Cards
On the final day of this term every family will receive their child/ren’s report card emailed to addresses recorded on our system. It is essential that you advise us of any changes to your details so that we can ensure that all information is sent to the appropriate email address. Families will have the opportunity early in Term 3 to meet with their child/ren’s teacher at the Parent Teacher Conference to discuss these report cards and your child’s learning journey this year. Families will receive an invitation to make a booking on the SOBS booking system for Tuesday 16 July. Please contact your class teacher if you have any queries related to the Parent Teacher Conference evening.
P&C Fair – Saturday 15 June
The biannual school Fair is going to be a fantastic day for every member of our school community. I encourage you to come along and support our very generous P&C as they raise money to support every Camp Hill student as well as providing a great day out for every member of the community. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers for your support for the Fair.
Playgrounds
The P&C and school leadership team are working with playground providers to confirm the final design for the new playground for the Junior campus. This is such an exciting adventure and one that I know our students will enjoy for many years to come. Thank you to the P&C for supporting TWO new playgrounds this year!
Beginner Band and Junior Strings
Our young Instrumental Music musicians will have the opportunity to join in the Balmoral Beginner Band Camp and Southside Junior Strings program in the final week of this term. These days are a highlight of the year for the Instrumental Music program as they provide students with the opportunity to learn and perform with students from a number of schools.
Date Claimer – Thursday 18 July
The 2024 Junior Sports Day will be held early next term – Thursday 18 July. Class teachers will send home more detailed information closer to the event, but I do know that families like to come along and enjoy the events on offer for our students.
Emergency Drills
I would like to complement our students and staff for their efficient and effective responses to the schools Emergency Drills – Evacuation and Lock Down. It is essential that everyone on campus knows what to do if there was an event on campus. I am always so impressed with how quickly the youngest members of our school (the prep students) adjust to these drills.
School Positive Behaviour Plan - Wrist Bands
As the year has progressed, we have seen hundreds of students celebrate their positive behaviours with their personal behaviour passports and wrist bands. It is always a pleasure to see the delight when the student receives their next band – and of course, the lead-up to the High Tea! Thank you to all families for supporting this valued program at school.
Our Special Camp Hill Wildlife
Camp Hill is so very fortunate to have such large grounds with well-established trees to support our numerous birds and wildlife. The students are so fortunate to learn in an environment that provides a real connection with nature and allows everyone to enjoy the simple pleasure of watching the ‘littlest’ members of our community on campus. Being on the official Koala Corridor is certainly a very special thing. I am proud of the way our students show respect, care and appreciation for our wildlife.

Best wishes

Principal
Communication between school and home
Communication between their home and school plays an important role in the education of all students. It is this communication to ensures that we are working together to ensure our students, your children, receives the best care and education that we together can offer. It is important that the school, in particular the classroom teachers are aware of issues that may be impacting on students’ wellbeing and thus on their learning. It is also important the we hear of your concerns or instances that we need to celebrate.
We understand that emailing your child’s class teacher is often the most convenient and time efficient method of communication. Unfortunately, the time emails are sent are usually outside of school hours which will mean a delay in when the teacher will receive them. Teachers are encouraged not to check or respond to work-related (school) emails when they are at home, on weekends or during holidays. While teachers do check their emails prior to and after the school day, they may not be able to immediately respond as they have meetings and/or are preparing lessons and resources. During the school day, teachers are responsible for teaching and should not check/respond to emails during “contact/teaching” time. So please be mindful of this. We suggest that when sending an email to the school please:
• Consider the time you are sending it and understand that there might a 24-48 hours (during the school week) turn-around time to receive a response. (If you haven’t heard back within two school days, please ring the office requesting the teacher contact you. Sometimes, teacher may be away or have not received your email.)
• Only send the email to one person. (This will reduce the response time. Sending to multiple staff delays when somebody will contact you as everyone that you have sent it to will need to meet to discuss the email and decide who is best to respond.)
• If you need to contact a member of the leadership team (e.g., Head of Curriculum, Deputy Principal or Principal) we recommend you send the email to admin@camphillipss.eq.edu.au and attention it to the person you are wanting to contact as this will ensure the quickest response. This email box is monitored several times during the day by our office staff and some members of the leadership team. Your email will be forwarded to the appropriate person, or if the person away then to somebody on the team. (The office staff also often ring team member to inform them of the email that has been forwarded.)
We trust the communication between home and school continues to support us all working together in the best interest of our students.

eSafety
Camp Hill is committed to helping students develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes to be safe and respectful users of technology. We are also aware that students’ online experiences often move seamlessly between home and school and as a school are committed to supporting our students safety online. We will be sharing a range of information, tips and resources for parents and carers from the eSafety Commissioner (eSafety.gov.au) that you can use with your family to help create positive experiences for your children online.
Reporting when something goes wrong online
If your child experiences something harmful online such as cyberbullying, image-based abuse or illegal and restricted content, you can report it directly to the social media service, game, app or website where the incident occurred.
Often young people will need the support of an adult to report. The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety.gov.au) advises taking the following steps:
1. Collect evidence before reporting to the platform or taking other action. If the issue is ongoing, make sure you collect screenshots showing what has been happening and for how long.
2. Report to the platform where it happened. Use The eSafety Guide to help you. After you report, the service may remove the content straight away. They may also block those responsible or delete their account. If the post involves something illegal like grooming, they may refer it to law enforcement or another agency to take further action.
3. If the platform does not take action, you or your child can report it to eSafety. eSafety will ask you to complete an online reporting form and include evidence.
Online safety for every family
The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety.gov.au) has released resources to help parents and carers from all backgrounds protect their families online.
The Online Safety for Every Family resources cover how to:
• get started with social media
• enjoy safer online gaming
• help your child if they are bullied online.
To make sure more families can start a conversation with their children about online safety, the resources are available in English, Simplified Chinese, Arabic, Burmese, Dari, Hindi, Nepali, Punjabi, Sinhalese, Swahili, Tamil, Tigrinya, Uyghur and Vietnamese.

Phonological Awareness:
- Connect phase awakens student's curiosity and the desire to learn.
- Construct phase encourages the student to tackle the challenge by building something functional or meaningful to them.
- Contemplate phase involves reflection and dialogue with the teacher and other students, about what everyone has learned from their experience.
- Continue phase gives stidents the opportunities to apply their newly acquired knowledge to new challenges and to take ownership of their learning. Repetitions may occur throughout the process as students work continuously through the steps.

Uniform Shop
Winter Uniforms
Have your little people outgrown their school uniform jackets or school uniform trackpants?
Did you know the uniform shop can sell them for you?
Many families are looking for second-hand school winter items so if you have school uniform items to sell please bring them in to the uniform shop
Good to know -
* Items must be in good quality condition with a working zip
* Items will be priced and put out for sale
* As an item sells then the P and C just keep $5 for handling costs and the remainder is available as credit with the uniform shop for either future purchases or can be transferred to you.
Eg - a second hand jacket is $45 which would mean $40 would be available once the item sells.
If you wish to donate good quality items, this would also be appreciated.

School Attendance - Exemptions from Compulsory Schooling
Exemptions from compulsory schooling
What is an exemption?
Every parent of a child of compulsory school age has a legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled at and attending school.
Parents can apply for an exemption from this obligation when their child cannot (or it would be unreasonable in all the circumstances) attend school for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days.
Who decides to grant or not grant an exemption?
Decisions about exemptions are made by the Principal.
How to Apply?
Applications forms are availble by email the administration team at admin@camphilliipss.eq.edu.au

Planning for Term 3
As we move towards the final weeks of the term, teachers are busy planning for Term 3. The team of class teachers and inclusion teachers from each year level work together with myself, as Head of Department - Curriculum, to look at teaching and learning for the following term. During these valuable planning sessions, we look closely at;
• Curriculum — what teachers teach and students learn
• Pedagogy — how teachers teach and differentiate so that every student's learning needs are met in ways appropriate to the principles: the curriculum, the learning, and the learner
• Assessment — how teachers judge the quality of evidence of student achievement against the relevant achievement standards and use data to provide the curriculum in a way that supports continuous improvement in student learning and achievement
• Reporting — how teachers report to parents on student learning and achievement against the relevant achievement standards using the appropriate reporting scale.
A particular focus this year has been planning English Units based on Version 9.0 of the Australian Curriculum. Building a deep understanding of the new curriculum requires analysis of the organisational and structural curriculum elements and a strong understanding of what is appropriate to the curriculum.
As part of planning, the teachers use a whole school approach for moderation processes to align curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and reporting; and to ensure consistency of teacher judgments and validity of reported results.
